I have been kind of slack on updating this blog, but I'm hoping to get better! My instagram @artsyblevs takes my attention away from here, even though this blog is my baby. I wanted to blog about teaching elementary art units across grade levels. Last year I tried this a few times, mostly for my sanity, but also to help manage time by using similar supplies across grades. I did an ancient art unit with k-5 last year and it was really fun. First students identified and labeled a 12 part color wheel using crayons. Then they painted the primary, secondary and intermediate colors onto a larger color wheel paper which they divided into 12 equal parts using a ruler. After their papers dried, students cut out a large white circle for the sclera, their color wheel for the iris, and a small black circle for the pupil. Then “skin” was glued on top with the addition of black eyelashes.

I find myself doing different color wheel projects each year, and I think I like this one the best because it is simple and only took 3 classes. Day 1- Each student took a 9 x 12 paper and drew and "X" and a horizontal line across the middle. This allowed our paper to be divided into 6 parts. Then, students drew an image of their choice in the middle of their paper. The image had to enter all 6 parts and have detail. They went over their lines with sharpie.
