A new addition this week comes from the 16th century, being a hand-colored engraving printed by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg, “Malta" in Civitates orbis terrarium, vol. 1. Cologne: [s.n.], 1597. The map shows the early construction of Valletta, built as a response to the Great Siege of 1565. Note the chain across the harbor!
