a green and pink doily on a gray surface

I'm back from Los Angeles, and I had a great time! We all survived the speeches that one always has to sit through at a graduation, and then we had fun. We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, which was pretty fun. My favorite exhibit there was the sea otters, although I found it gallingly ironic that the exhibit is sponsored by BP. Did you know that a sea otter has as many hairs in one square inch as a German shepherd has on its entire body? The next day we went to the La Brea…

a crocheted cross is displayed on a black tablecloth with pink, yellow and green flowers

I have been too long away from my blogging. I do have some pictures to share with you all. I believe that the last time I wrote I shared that I was working on a special project for our annual fall ladies gathering at church. As of today I am up to 76 motifs. The jar that I started keeping them in is now half way full of these motifs. I plan on getting them all done and then attaching ribbon to each to form a bookmark. I took a break at 50 motifs and tatted a cross using the modified pattern…

a close up of a piece of cloth with crochet

This motif is Mary Konior's Posy with beads...this has been done by several people recently, most notably by Michelle and Happy Bluebird. I loved how they did the beads on the posy...and that is what I wanted to try. I love how this came out... It will make another lovely ornament... The beads sparkle nicely and it's a nice pattern to work, very relaxing and easy to set down and pick back up. I was a bit intimidated by the number of rosette joins in this pattern, but it ended up being good…

a purple heart shaped brooch sitting on top of a blue surface

A WIP, Marilee's "Wondrous Window" pendant: It's done now, but needs blocking. I'll show the completed pendant with full stats in a day or two, after I make the matching bracelet and earrings. This is the variation that uses woven beaded picots. It requires a total of 6 paperclips, some of which are re-used a couple of times. I chose this variation because, given a choice, I am basically incapable of choosing the simpler version. Plus, it was fun and I got to explore a new technique. Don't…

an ornament made out of pink thread on a white background with the word love written

I haven't been blogging anywhere, and I had pretty much decided to give it up, especially as I had bought a new computer and it didn't seem to want to link with my old scanner printer. However I needed to print something and so was obliged to spend a bit more time and thought on the problem, and voilà, I now have it working perfectly. First piece, this is from Adelheid Dangela's book "Occhi Patchwork". The book is in German, but the patterns are diagrammed, and easy to follow. The idea is…

an image of a circular design made out of glasses on a black background in the shape of a heart

Before I begin the tatting portion of this blog post, I want to make a quick shop announcement. I'll make it short. I have decided to offer free shipping to Canada and the United States for the month of December. Overseas shipping has been reduced by the US shipping amount. OK, enough of that. Time for the tatting. My previous post was about the bookmark I received from TattingChic. This time I will show off the bookmark I made TattingChic. After scanning through websites and pattern books…

a white snowflake on a black background

About a month and a half ago, I answered Sherry's (AKA LadyShuttleMaker's) call for test tatters for her new butterfly book. I enjoy testing other tatters new patterns, and was pleased when Sherry accepted my offer. I got to test two patterns, though the second one came a few weeks after I finished the first one. This is Amberlynn. She was tatted with Lizbeth size 20 thread in colour #129 Purple Splendor (I think!). This is a really cool butterfly, and easy to tat. This little guy (yup, I'm…
