I felt that Gizmo and Spike needed to work on their multiplication facts a bit this year. Gizmo has had them down pretty good in the past, but Summer break does take its toll, and a refresher course never hurt anyone as far as I know. Especially when the reward for doing so is a banana split. For each set of times tables that they pass off to me, they get to color that corresponding portion of the worksheet. Every number has a designated item, whether it be a scoop of ice cream, a banana, or…

For as long as I've taught 3rd grade, our kids have had difficulty memorizing their math facts. Each year we have an incentive to give them a little boost. We build a "Gingerbread House" for addition facts (look for my previous post in December for this) the first part of the year, and we do what we call the "Multiplication Sundae" the second half of the year. We start on the x 0's and x 1's and work our way up to the x 12's. Our students earn a piece of the sundae for every multiplication…

Made It Monday, August 5th - Ah! "First Day of School" is just around the corner (ready or not?!) For this Made It Monday with 4th Grade Frolics I am showing a section of my classroom. "Teach For America" has a different energy than I would say my new school and district. Most of their push for urgency, rigor, tracking growth, high expectations and ect. can be taken into my Kindergarten class.
