Owl and the pussycat

I've always like "The Owl and the Pussycat" by Edward Lear. Here is a vintage illustration by my favorite children's book illustrators, Alice and Martin Provensen. It is from the 1965 Childcraft Series Volume 1-Poems and Rhymes. I purchased it as as single page from The Print Makers. I did this linoleum block version for my 2012 Calendar (Available October 24 in my Etsy shop!) This is just a proof- the final version is in Pea Green, of course. The whimsy of this poem by Edward Lear introduced generations of children to adventure, travel and true love, with these two explorers who threw doubt and unease out of the boat before embarking on their journey, the world and seas at their command.

For a poet and an illustrator, a perfect fit, in life...and on their invites. The owl and pussycat graphics were drawn by the professional-illustrator groom and the text was professionally edited by the bride (and arranged in 'waves' by EMprint). The result of our collaboration is so delightful. I have hopes to adapt the design for a limited edition broadside print in the near future.
