Blue-Tailed Skink: A Beautiful Lizard Species

Cryptoblepharus egeriae, known commonly as the blue-tailed shinning-skink, is a species of lizard (family Scincidae) that was once endemic to Christmas Island. The Christmas Island blue-tailed skink was discovered in 1888. It was formerly the most abundant reptile on the island, and occurred in high numbers particularly near the human settlement.

Colorful Juvenile Skink in a Southern Carolina Swamp

A juvenile Plestiodon Skink( possibly Plestiodon fasciatus) photographed by Dennis Church in a Southern Carolina swamp on 4th August 2013. It is only the juveniles that have a blue tail as they mature into adults their colour changes and they loose the blue colouring of their tails.
