A collection of ostraka. Once a year, the citizens of Athens could inscribe names on shards of pottery naming a citizen they considered the worst threat to democracy. If the person with the most shards had more than 6,000, they would be ostracized and forced to leave the city for 5-10 years. In these shards you can see Themistocles' name. Themistocles was a prominent populist leader, ostracized in 472. National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
