The Witness Tree
Oregon's oldest living tree, a Limber Pine, is estimated to be well over 2,000 years old. The true age will never be known with certainty due to the hollow base of the tree. The ancient Pine clings tightly to a steep and crumbling slope high in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of the Wallowa Mountains. Though mostly dead, a strip of live bark wraps itself up and around the tree keeping it alive and still producing seed cones to this day. -Aaron Ellingsen
