In 1951 when the I Love Lucy show was set to launch Lucille was very pregnant with daughter Lucie. In those days, you simply couldn’t be pregnant on TV so they strategically hid Ball’s bulging belly. However, a year later Lucy was expecting her 2nd so the show decided to risk it & give Lucy & Ricky a little one, too—even though they still weren’t allowed to use the word “pregnant” on TV. This made history with an incredible 44 million viewers tuning in to the very special birth episode.
