I was originally thinking wrap around, but they're really going to want to be on the sunny side, and they'd love multi-story. Maybe it could go on one of the sides, but all the way to the front? The whole thing doesn't need to be sheltered from the elements, but we'd need at least a low liftable roof over the cat boxes. Getting them out of the small space is one of the goals.

Really cool modular cat perches. This perch uses an IKEA stolman closet pole and clamps, and then you purchase the steps and platforms from Whisker Studio. The last picture on the home page is really cool, but unfortunately is in Flash so I can't post it here. But still a cool idea!

This is close to what I'm thinking- side of the house, completely enclosed with two doors at each end for fire/human access. Only there would be a turf section for the dog to potty, areas for them to play and be comfy and it would be attached to the house with a lockable dog door.
