Arts.The picture above is the Sydney Opera House. This was built by Jorn Utzon. This began to be built in 1958 and was publicly opened on October 20, 1973. In Australia they have a national opera company, and a national ballet company. They perform at the Sydney dance and opera house.
Daily Life. One main sport in Australia is rugby/ Australian rules football. The team plays against the United Kingdom, South Africa, and New Zealand. Each team has 18 players and 4 interchange players to sub in and out with the player on the field. Rugby is different from American Football. In rugby you have to keep passing the ball backwards and get into the end zone without getting tackled. Rugby is basically football with no pads and no passing it forward.
Animals. The most common animals in Australia are kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats and other marsupials. (a marsupial is an animal that carries its baby in its pouch.) One very strange animal in Australia is the platypus, it is only found in Australia and they are the only mammals that hatch their young from eggs.
Daily Life. In Australia they eat some very odd foods that you would never think of. Some examples are, Fish and chips which is just fried fish with small fries. Three other examples are crocodile, grilled kangaroo, and hamburger with beetroot.
Art. Aboriginal has portrayed dream time ancestors who created life and landscape. Rock art, paintings, dances, and musical stories are all examples of art they do. They also created a musical instrument called the didgeradoo. It is a long wooden musical instrument that you blow into and it makes noises.
Another popular sport in Australia is cricket. Cricket is played with a bat and a ball. Two teams of 11 players play against each other. There is a pitcher and a striker also known as the batter. The game consists of two innings and it ends when the other team has gotten 10 of the 11 players out.
Government. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state in Australia. She is the Monarch because Australia’s nation is a part of Britain’s and she is Queen of Britain. She does not have much political power in Australia.
Daily Life. In Australia schooling is much different than in the U.S. In Australia you only have to go to school from age 6-15. In school, uniforms are required for all students. In the U.S it is different.
