Last night my lady baked a pie and it was exceptional. I guess it could be labelled a 'Paleo Pie' as there is no sugar or refined carbohydrates. The 'pastry' was made from pecans and almond meal and the 'mash' was done with cauliflower. I highly recommend making it over the weekend. PS it was even better this morning. A delicious Sunday breakfast. Zoe bought a large mushroom, cracked an egg in it and baked it for ten minutes. Then she made a side of tomato, garlic and goats cheese. It was a terrific way to start a Sunday.
This avocado and banana smoothie is a great start to the day and is also a handy option for people trying to transition away from soft drinks or juices. Its a great choice for kids when they get home from school too. A banana, an avocado and some water in the blender will easily serve 2. Simple and sustaining.
So this is my lady Zoe's all you can eat salad jar. Tuna, almonds, purple raw cabbage, kale, fennel and lettuce with a lemon and olive oil dressing. Put the dressing, tuna and almonds in first so the softer items don't get soggy and then simply tip it upside down to serve. Maybe even call it a 'rainbow jar' by adding other colorful vegetables and make it fun for kids.
Here's a treat for the approaching Christmas season sugar fest. Zoe's Peanut Butter Chocs. I can attest to genuinely demolishing these bad boys. Made only with coconut oil, cacao and peanut butter. Recipe is now up on our website. www.thatsugarfilm.com
Catering for 4 vegetarians today. Zoe pumped out this Moroccan vegetable platter. So easy and went down a treat. Chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, chopped apple, sweet potato, asparagus, cauliflower, moroccan spice mix and topped with warm pine nuts. She served it with a dressing made from yoghurt and olive oil. It's a keeper.
Here is another recipe from Zoe that helped me get my body back on track after the experiment. The full recipe can be found at www.thatsugarfilm.com under recipes. And don't forget to download our free EBook while you're there with more suggestions for lowering sugar intake. D
Another breakfast idea from Zoe: Baked Capsicum Eggs with pesto. So easy and fun for kids too. The recipe is in the free EBOOK on the website for those that haven't found it. (Download it here - http://mad.mn/thatsugarebook) There are some terrific new recipes on their way too.
Here is Zoe's recipe for the Raw Rainbow Cake. This cake does contain some fructose but for a once a year birthday treat its a whole lot healthier than the other 'once a yearers' out there. This makes an entire cake that serves an army of children (and adults) - Full recipe available here As requested, here is Zoe's recipe for the Raw Rainbow Cake. http://mad.mn/rawrainbow
This is a really great example of how sugar is hiding in often healthily marketed meals. This lasagne has added brown sugar. This post is not suggesting the donuts are a better option, it is merely demonstrating how sugar is hiding in foods we wouldn't be aware of and this is why we are consuming so much of it throughout the day.
Here's What Happened to 1 Man When He Ate 40 Teaspoons of Sugar a Day
Despite the words Go Natural, Gluten Free and the images of fruit, a bee and yoghurt, the ingredients listed are a sugar yoghurt compound plus more sugar, fruit juice and fruit juice concentrate (which are other names for sugar and are very high in fructose).
