Wayside is a place where diverse peoples can come together to reflect on the problems confronting them, heal from the traumas those problems have inflicted, and collectively craft solutions. At and through Wayside, community members and organizers build a regional network of people equipped with the skills and web of relationships needed to mobilize for long term, radical social change.

This is an idea that originated with Caritas, the Catholic aid agency, it was originally developed to deal with literacy programs in Brazil and is now applied to problems in the developed world. It’s called Animation, and it’s all about the community deciding on its priorities and then finding solutions to them. It looks deceptively easy although there must have been some heartbreaking moments along the way.

Animation Project: It is a project for people who are social housing tenants in the Campbelltown region on NSW. The residents are emerging or leaders for change in their community and are working towards a better future for their children and community. The residents are involved in issues that directly affect them and do not hesitate in communicating with decision makers on the direct impact of policy changes that impact on income, housing, community safety, employment, health or transport.
