Daughter of the Empire- If you only read one fantasy series, this is the one I recommend. It is a great look at fantasy Asian culture and the ideas of honor and nobles. Most fantasy novels take place in fantasy Europe, so it is a fresh idea and really changes several well used themes to create a new and interesting realm. The realm also hooks into a fantasy Europe for the ones seeking out traditional fantasies.
