THE ARTERY Aboriginal Art - Like many of the women from the Utopia region, Dulcie is an exceptional ‘colourist’ and she often uses colour in a highly captivating manner. Dulcie’s paintings depict her totem ‘Bush Yam’ for which she is one of the custodians within her culture. Bush yam vegetables grow beneath the earth. The leaf-like patterns shown in the painting depict the yam flower above the ground and pays homage to the Country of the Yam.

THE ARTERY Aboriginal Art - Janet’s paintings depict her totem ‘Bush Yam’ for which she is one of the custodians within her culture. Bush yam vegetables grow beneath the earth, the leaf-like patterns shown in the painting depict the yam flower above the ground. The yams are an important food source in traditional aboriginal culture of the Utopia region and are one of the few vegetables that can be found in the arid conditions of central Australia.
