A Puffin Quartet of Poets (1958) Eleanor Farjeon, James Reeves, E.V. Rieu & Ian Serraillier. Farjeon had a few lovely poems, but on the whole I enjoyed Reeve & Rieu the most, and Serraillier not at all. Finished 18th Oct 2015, bedtime reading, first read.
08-Mar-17: The Beauty of the Beast. Jack Prelutsky editor, Meilo So, illustrator. The illustrations are great, especially the birds. The selection of poems, all from the twentieth century, is not very good.
Collected Poems 1909 - 1962 (1963) by T. S. Eliot. Eliot sometimes gets carried away by ideas instead of words, but is a great poet. I found myself looking forward to reading him every night. Finished 19th Mar 2016, bedtime reading, first read of entire book.
The Puffin Book of 20th Century Children's Verse (1999) edited by Brian Patten. Great collection, I really enjoyed it. Has had several editions, all slightly different, and only has 20th century poets. Finished 15th Feb 2016, bedtime reading, first read.
Lyrics from the Chinese (1913, but 1951 cover) by Helen Waddell. This is ancient Chinese poetry that was translated to prose by Dr Legge, then turned into poetry by Waddell. Overall has a lot of charm, and is an enjoyable read. Finished 15th Dec 2015, bedtime reading, first read.
The Progress of Poetry (1965) edited by Colin J Horne & Maurice O'Brien. One of my favourite poetry anthologies, and the first one I read, as it was set at school. Covers British & Australian poetry from Chaucer to the mid-twentieth century, an excellent collection. Finished 14th Dec 2015, bedtime reading, have read often.
Miracle Fair (2001) Selected Poems of Wislawa Szymborska. I liked this collection. Though it did not have several of my favourite Szymborska poems, it had many I have never read before. Finished 14th Nov 2015, bedtime reading, first read.
