In one 24-hour period during the little-known battle of Fromelles, 4,000 Australian soldiers lost their lives. This from a country with a population of 1.5 million at the time, and the majority from the State of Victoria. Only now are some of those men being identified through DNA records. The price paid by the young colonies of Australia and New Zealand was appalling.

Graves line the valley of the river Somme; they're very humbling.

Read about the 4th Australian Light Horse Brigade and their battle at Beersheba, Palestine - I wish history, at school, could have been taught in this fun way.

My Great Uncle John Greenie Osborn was a Light horseman sadly passed away in the last Cavalry Charge In History at Beersheba in Israel. Also a Gallipoli veteran 1915 he will always be remembered. At the going down of the sun and in the morning.
