Climbed up to the top of Dois Irmãos mountain in Rio yesterday. For those who have been this is the distinctive rocky mountain you see at the end of Ipanema/Leblon beach. Its not the longest hike but it was straight up in 37 degree heat and you have to pass through Vidigal favela on the way up and down.

Medical Tourism Department: feeling significantly less wise after having all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out in Brasilia Brazil. The two top ones were not so bad bit of heave ho and were out in 5 minutes a piece. The lower two both had 3 roots instead of 2 and were wedged under the adjacent teeth. Felt like the guy was gonna reef my bottom jaw off I could see him flexing his muscles. and took lots of drilling. Afterwards he told me I was moderate to difficult. Each tooth was about US$130 which is…

Well it was a bit of a rough night in Ghorepani Nepal but I only had to stick it out till 5am then walk for an hour ascending 400m vertically up a million icy stairs in the dark to a nearby hilltop. But the reward was worth it! Super stoked!

In South America near the border with Brazil and Paraguay 4 hours drive from the nearest decent sized city 1 hour along a dirt track and at the bottom of a 75 metre deep abyss snorkelling around in a dark but clear underground lake which is another 80m deep-this may be the most out of my comfort zone I have ever been! There are huge stalagmite cones in the lake which can be dived/snorkelled- it is one of only 3 lakes with these formations and all are in Brazil. The climb back out 75m up a…

If youre ever in Berlin one unusual thing to check out is the Stalin-era Soviet War Memorial. This is just a small part of it- its grandiose! When Germany was reunified there was a condition that all Soviet memorials would remain and so there it is. A really interesting part of 20th Century history.
