Flattening the entrance's peaked roof and expanding it into a real porch was the key to creating a "distinct entry for the home," says architect Corbett Scott. The new squared-off parapet, punctuated with 1-foot-tall finials, adds drama and depth to the exterior. French doors with a fresh Chippendale spin complement the Colonial home's English roots.
Despite the different materials, the house looks uniform because the two wings are structurally identical. In between the two wings an enclosed breezeway houses the kitchen, dining and living in one open space. “It is flanked by two wings with traditional pitched roofs,” says Hodgskin. “They talk to each other in form and the bit in between is really the minimum we could do to link them.”
