Heard of the term Fossicking? It is a term used in Cornwall meaning beachcombing. However, in Australia and New Zealand, it means searching around in disused prospecting areas for precious metals or gemstones. Legally it is the gathering of minerals for recreation with no intent to sell or use for commercial purposes. Some locations require a licence. These gemstones contain tiny needle-like inclusions of a mineral called rutile, these fibres of rutile intersect each other at various angles to produce the star asterism.
