I was SO surprised to learn that the Kookaburra, common in my home state, was introduced to Tasmania. Never thought this bird could be an interloper in parts of Australia. It just seems to be rather an icon.
Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a carnivorous bird in the kingfisher family Halcyonidae. Native to eastern Australia, it has also been introduced to parts of New Zealand, Tasmania and Western Australia.
