Party Pod House

A mid-tier pod extension that connects the home’s indoor and outdoor spaces and provides new opportunities for entertaining. Photography by Alanna McTiernan.

Agnes Water Beach House

The project’s genesis lies in the juxtaposition of charred landscapes and vibrant resurgence witnessed post-bushfires. This juxtaposition served as the cornerstone of our design philosophy, blending resilience with rejuvenation. Traversing through dense foliage, our team unearthed the ideal location—an oasis framed by the majestic silhouette of a bloodwood tree. This serendipitous discovery guided our site-specific approach, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with the natural surroundings. Photgraphy by Toby Scott.

Pop-Up House

Bunkbed House - Maytree Studios

Making every space work hard was critical for this project, because the priority was investing in a high level of finish that will wear well. So rather than maximising footprint, we sought ways to make each space fit for purpose so the budget could cover high-grade finishes. Photography by Toby Scott.
This project was all about rethinking the ways we engage with space using materials such as stone, concrete and render. The internal courtyard is also reminiscent of internal castle grounds, but its purpose is not merely to fulfil an aesthetic brief. Photography by Toby Scott.

Castle House - Maytree Studios

The external black spotted gum cladding floats in the landscape, enhancing the feeling we wanted to create of living among the trees. This striking low-maintenance material accents the surrounding greenery, and simultaneously complements the black detailing in the home’s blonde bricks peeking through beneath.
Firmly believing “you can’t put lipstick on a pig”, Golda and Dhjango approached us to devise an extension that would not compete with their home’s existing 1970s brick exterior. They wanted to leave the bricks as they were – unpainted and unrendered – in order to tell the story of this home’s evolution. Inside, however, everything was fair game.

GTMadhouse - Maytree Studios

A mezzanine sheltering the kitchen island bench provides a play space for three young children, and built-in seating around an outdoor fire pit and wood-fired oven has become a favourite gathering point. After staging a number of renovations to their modest timber cottage in the Glass House Mountains, Andrew and Katie were ready for a more ambitious challenge. For the centrepiece of their home, they wanted to create a barn-like structure to house the kitchen as well as dining, living and play spaces. The double-height extension is a single multi-use space that brings vitality and connection to family life. To achieve this effect, we worked carefully on the scale and proportions of space to ensure it feels warm and homely despite its openness. Glasshouse Residence

A two-storey staircase and glass wall marks the transition from the cottage to the contemporary downstairs living area, and connects the residence with the Poinciana. To further build the indoor-outdoor connection, an upstairs daybed sits inside the tree’s canopy while a downstairs daybed frames its sculptural trunk. Photography by Cathy Schusler.
