Federal Coffee Palace at 589 Collins Street. Described by the National Trust as possibly "the most extraordinary creation of Melbourne's land boom", it was built in 1888, initially operating as a temperance hotel and only serving tea and fresh milk. By the 1920's it was named the Federal Hotel and was serving alcohol, but was demolished in 1972.
