Whack-a-word! Call out a word and who ever hits it first with the hammer gets to keep it. This could be a center activity with one child calling out sight words/compound words/etc., or even sentences for fluency and quick recognition.
Paint Chips for teaching contractions Another one my students enjoy...I made a set for contractions, and also made a plural set. Write the plural ending under the folded-over part. They haven't figured out the "clue" that if the ending is "ies" the last letter is written on the top of the fold so that, when you open it, you have the correct ending.
