Patterns of Magnificence
Ladies-in-waiting court dress established by Queen Olga, inspired by the bridal costume of the Mesogeia region of Attica
Traditional festive costume from the Marmara region. Dating: 1900-1925. The trousers and long-sleeved vest in striped silk, and the velvet jacket are embroidered (‘golden’ thread in ‘kordon tutturma’ technique/applied cord). (Kavak Folklor Ekibi&Costume Collection-Antwerpen/Belgium).
A traditional festive (‘summer’) costume from the Konya province. Late-Ottoman urban fashion, end of 19th century. With an ‘üçetek’ (robe with three panels) and an ‘arkalık’ (triangular waistcloth) in silk discontinuous (‘broché’) brocade. They date, as well as the jewelry, from 1875-1900, or earlier. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
A traditional festive costume from the Niğde province. Late 19th / early 20th century. In the upper left picture: the brown silk ensemble (trousers and shirt), without the ‘cepken’ (outer vest); the meagre decoration of the shirt indicates that a long-sleeved jacket was to be worn over it. All accessories (headgear, necklace, belt buckle, embroidered sash) are from the same period (ca. 1900). (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
