An example of what I don't like and I am sure doesn't appeal to you either. But i thought it would be helpful to show you what I don't like. 1. The design is too busy. 2. The pastel colours are dull. 3. I don't like the headline font "A World War II trilogy". It's old fashioned, which, in itself is not a bad thing but it doesn't fit with the the look and feel and other fonts. 4. You have to scroll to see all the information.

http://stephenking.com/ Another busy and unclear page. But he doesn't need a website to sell himself or his books ...

http://www.robert-harris.com/ Yes. This hits all the right buttons: 1. The page is simple 2. It's all about the book -- and should be. 3. Immediately can see what it's about. 4. I like the one-colour background: it's elegant. 5. I especially like not having a menu ribbon, for want of a better word. That is, the menu items are on a different background colour to the rest of the site. 6. It looks good on the phone too -- much the same. This is the best I've seen so far.

http://www.alanfurst.net/ 1. I don't like the mustard back ground and author's name. 2. Too busy.

Another one I don't like because: 1. Head and shoulders pic of author is too big. 2. He is saying he is the most important thing on the site, not his books 3. Being all about him is at the expense of other information to which you have to scroll. 4. The other information is not set out clearly.

I like: 1. Big image. Seems to be same as background on cover; similar at least 2. The cover on the image 3. Author's name at the top with menu under 4. All the information is above the "fold" as we used to say in the old days or newspaper broadsheets; now in the first screen on a desktop or laptop.
