Banksia is a genus of around 170 species in the plant family Proteaceae. An Australian wildflower easily recognized by their characteristic flower spikes and fruiting cones" and heads. Despite the large number of flowers per inflorescence, only a few of them ever develop fruit. The fruit of Banksia is a woody follicle embedded in the axis of the inflorescence. These consist of two horizontal valves that tightly enclose the seeds.

My photo for the day, some Kangaroo Paw flowers from my garden. I love how bright and fuzzy they are

Ornamental weeping gum with white trunk and large red flowers that are produced in spring. Flowers from a mature "Silver Princess".

I love a golden wattle, symbol of our land. You can put it in a bottle, or hold it in your hand.

Golden Wattle - Australia's national colors - green & gold come from this. Not too good for those with hay fever, the yellow is like little pompoms coated with pollen.
