From the early days of the Second World War, Council sent birthday greeting cards and canteen orders, together with an embossed leather wallet and other comforts to every individual resident from Malvern serving in the armed forces.  In return, the Council received hundreds of hand-written letters of thanks from men and women on every fighting front as well as some written to the Council by wives, parents or other relatives.
