FLORENCE BROADHURST: Florence and her original peacock wallpapers, which influenced today's present use of peacock and other oriental animal prints. Her use of oriental animals and prints originated from her travels and career abroad in India and China.
In 1959 Broadhurst established Australian Hand Printed Wallpapers. Broadhurst’s wallpaper design inspirations came from fruits inspired by Grecian vases to graphic Moroccan motifs and Japanese flowers. These remain as some of her most popular even today.
On her return to Australia Florence said "she was going to colour Australia'. The unmistakable form of the Cockatoo camouflaged by the lush foliage exudes dramatic and stylish just like Florence herself.
