Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) "Born on the wrong side of the sheets, Fitz, son of Chivalry Farseer, is a royal bastard, cast out into the world, friendless and lonely. Only his magical link with animals - the old art known as the Wit - gives him solace and companionship. But the Wit, if used too often, is a perilous magic, and one abhorred by the nobility."
Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb This book kicks off the 1st of two trilogies in this world, both of which are very good. Hobb is one of the few authors who have been able to bring me to tears with their stories. You really get attached to her characters.
