Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy) - Read @ the suggestion of my Brother-in-law's suggestion. Sean and I both loved it. My Stitchy Bear is just like the loyal pup in this book.

Young Fitz is the bastard son of noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill—and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to their survival.

Assassin's Apprentice by Hobb. Halfway through. If you can't tell yet, I usually read multiple books at once :)

hands down the best YA book series I have ever read! In this book series the reader faces realistic enough challenges like friendship, betrayal and love, drug addiction, leaving home, standing up for yourself and standing on your own.

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb reviewed on Fantasy Book Review (The Farseer Trilogy: Book 1)

Take one part Robin Hood, one part spy, another part awesome and you get a Ranger. The series starts out strong and then loses its heart as the author turned it into a long-term commercial project. I dropped its rating because of how formulaic it started to be. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
