Soldiers of the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking engage the Soviet Army in battle in Kowel. Kowel was captured by Soviets in July 1944. In 1945, Poland’s borders were redrawn and the Polish population was forcibly resettled and the town was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
