1780-1785 British Armchair at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London - From the curators' comments: "This chair (with its pair, W.18-1931) is part of a larger suite that formerly furnished the Music Room at Woodhall Park, Hertfordshire....This chair is a rare example of 18th-century furniture retaining its original paint. Painted decoration was highly fashionable in the 1770s-80s, and the mixture of colours used here was intended to evoke the colouring of ancient Greek, or 'Etruscan' vases."
