This novel, which takes place on a small island near Puget Sound during the 1950s, depicts the murder trial of Kabuo Miyomoto, a Japanese-American accused of killing his white neighbor over an unresolved land dispute. While a snowstorm rages outside the courtroom, the trial reveals a community divided by old grudges and still suffering from the devastating impact of World War II.
The Little Shepherd of Kingdom - This book is a family tradition. I find myself buying it each time I see a copy in a used bookstore. It made me fall in love with the name "Chad". One day I will own a copy of the Max Parrish illustrated anniversary edition.
A seemingly simple man who writes articles about scale models must go on a quest. He must retrieve valuable gems from a ship-wrecked boat to support his niece. There are many adventures on the way to Polynesia and he discovers that his life is not so small, after all. It's a quiet novel, no villains, but such a read.
