Richard Matheson, the very prolific prose, television and film writer who was responsible for the first-season Star Trek episode “The Enemy Within,” died today at age 87. In addition to authoring one of the defining Star Trek screenplays, Matheson wrote 16 episodes of The Twilight Zone, including what is arguably its most famous installment “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” which starred William Shatner.
