Paul Serusier (1863-1927) Landscape : the Bois d'Amour (The Talisman) Gauguin directed Seruier to paint this small landscape in an entirely Synthetist way. The result struck the young artist with the force of a revelation. He brought it to Paris, showed it to his friends and it was promptly named The Talisman. A early harbinger of abstract art.
