If you love rescues like we do, then this will be fascinating and fun. We had a family contest with top four breeds picked by each...prize was a donation to Humane Society (provided by me, of course!)

Biology Lab: Simple DNA Extraction from Wheat Germ This is one of my favorite labs/activities that I do with my Biology I students. It doesn't take long to do, it uses very simple household materials, and it works every time! There is no number crunching or data analysis, but just a fun activity that your students will really enjoy.

We found several Ophiocordyceps with bright red perithecia, looking quite similar and being closely related to Ophiocordyceps australis [formerly: Cordyceps australis].     Below an Ophiocordyceps on a weevil with a whole bunch of fruiting bodies growing out of it that is quite similar to Ophiocordyceps curculionium. However DNA analysis by Joey Spatafora, OSU Corvallis have shown that this is most likely a new species closely related to O. curulionium.
