Forgotten no. 62, a Fabric on Paper by Cindy Steiler from United States. It portrays: Women, relevant to: photograph, Mixed Media, victorian, textile art, fiber art, embroidery This is number 62 in my Forgotten Series. The series Forgotten is a collection of 19th Century cabinet card photographs of unidentified female subjects. Their bodies and clothing have been hand-embroidered using threads made from both natural fibers and metal. This series celebrates these forgotten women, hopefully breathing new life into their photos so they can once again be appreciated. This hand embroidered cabinet card dates back to the late 1800s. The skirt is made with handwoven silk that a friend of mine brought back from her recent trip to Turkey. The piece measures 4 1/4 inches by 16 inches. It is backed with gray wool felt and hangs with a tiny copper ring.
