On the 24th May, UNIC Canberra traveled with Amnesty International Australia to Bilabong High School in southern New South Wales. The students from the school had invited both the UN and Amnesty to talk to year seven through nine on LGBTI rights. Canberra, Australia's capital, is a planned community. It's a "company town", in which the major employer is the federal government. Up until 1988, we had no self-government. These days are fondly remembered by residents as a time when the city was open, low-rise, easy to get around, the bus system worked, the rates were low and the schools were top notch.
