Fiesta Coronation’s jaw-dropping dresses and trains

Katherine Basse Farmer, Duchess of Symbolic Artistry: The rich colors and figures of charming Indian folk art are seen on this gown embroidered in gold with pink Austrian stones and violet beading. The train’s sun, moon, plants, birds, flowers and fish are adorned with sequins, rhinestones and scalloped gold rope trim. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stephen Farmer.

The Witte Museum’s annual Fiesta exhibit opens today and celebrates the rich tradition of Fiesta in San Antonio by showcasing a selection of The Order of the Alamo coronation gowns from the museum’s collection of more than 170. Free museum admission every Tuesday from 3-8 p.m.

Anne-Marie Breedlove, Duchess of the Pearl of the Orient: This train’s centerpiece is peonies and Ming Dynasty porcelain jars in sequins, bugle beads and crystals. The silk shantung bodice is embroidered in blue crystals and opalescent seed beads. Blue sequins and Austrian crystals create a floral motif on a tulle skirt. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Betten Feldmann.
