During WWII, unnecessary travel was discouraged and the production of London Transport publicity posters ceased. The new role of pictorial posters was to provide information and boost morale among both passengers and staff. Many of the workers were women, lending a certain irony to the title, 'Back Room Boys'. In the central picture two women assist a male colleague working on a trolley bus. WWII propaganda poster (Great Britain, UK), 1942. Artist: Fred Taylor.
