Pearl Bailey was an American entertainer remembered for her sultry stage voice. Bailey started off signing in nightclubs, later taking secondary roles in many films. She played the title role in the all-black Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! in 1968. She wrote several books, including Hurry Up America and Spit. She earned her bachelor's degree in theology from Georgetown University at age 67.
