Hey the post I actually care about is one back so go look at that one but.... #bookhaul!! I went to @downindenverbooks again today because I love them and came away with a new copy of Inferno (I am up to six I may need an intervention) a beautifully battered Penguin Popular Poets edition of Byron (I don't even like Byron but I love the Popular Poets covers so....yeah) a translation of the Iliad I want to try and a collection of poems by W. G. Sebald! It was fantastic. Recommended to all…

As mentioned I took the train from Paris to London (and back!) today; this is what I read on the train (though this picture was taken in a coffee shop near Saint Pancras while I was waiting for Persephone to open). I am apparently in the mood for reading rambly dreamy intensely introspective work? Rilke's prose here reminds me a lot of Sebald Browne and especially Proust. I love these Penguin Pocket editions. I have never seen them in the states and I've bought two here so far to compensate…

Today's #alliwantforchristmasisbooks prompt: set where I live. I live in upstate New York in the foothills of the Berkshires on a 56 acre farm that has been in my family for generations. Ethan Frome is set less than an hour from my house (just on the Massachusetts side of the Berkshire hills) and I strongly relate to it. It's one of my all-time favorite books for its quiet understated tragedy. (And Edith Wharton is one of my all-time favorite authors.) Every time my husband and I go sledding…

There's not much picturesque at O'Hare International Airport but I am transiting through here and just finished "Decline and Fall" so I snapped a quick pic in the rotunda to document it. I didn't want to stand endlessly in the middle of everywhere bookstagramming so I was FAST. . Anyway I liked it and it was funny but I didn't adore it. The problem is he's viciously satirizing something (the British class system between the wars) that I don't know particularly well. I've certainly read…

And now the pressing question: which one do I read next???? . I have a three hour flight so I rather think I can read all of #weshouldallbefeminists and still make a good start on the #georgeeliot but I will take advice from the audience. I am so excited. Huge thanks to #barbarasbookstore for being one of the best airport bookstores I have ever browsed. I was so impressed by their selection. I picked up and put back "Wide Sargasso Sea" "Steppenwolf" and "Down and Out in London and Paris"…

Paris Day 2. I cannot tell you how excited I was for this bookstore! I may have spent an undisclosed amount of money on two Virginia Woolf first editions. This was probably one of the peak book shopping expeditions of my life. I also came away with Sebald's The Rings of Saturn and The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke....among other things. And I still have Persephone and Daunt Books coming up on Monday swoon. Omg u guise I am so happy. #bookstagram #bookish…

I am enjoying this cheerful stack of yellow books. "Things Fall Apart" is a TBR; the Bonhoeffer is a current read; the Rich is on hold halfway through. I've read the other three. Patrick O'Brian is one of my favorite light reads for when I am cranky. Rosemary's catnip: best friends and/or doctors as protagonists. The "Master and Commander" series is fantastic for this. My first and still my most beloved fandom was and is Holmes and Watson for exactly the same reasons plus detection of…

This is my #currentlyreading. I like re-photographing the whole stack once I've totally cycled through and my new books are entirely different from my last books. May flowers and my almost untouched #maytbr. Sigh. I have read a LOT this month just not this pile! But hey still over a week left. Maybe I will make some inroads. I guess the Verne counts as #currentlyreading although I haven't touched it in a while..... . . . . . #bookstagram #reading #books #bookish #booknerdigans #bookworm #booklove #bibliophile #booklover #booknerd #booksofinstagram . #theardentbiblioreads
