#februarywrapup time! I like doing these. I had a decent although not fantastic reading month in February. I read two literary novels three books of poetry three Georgette Heyers (I went on a bit of a binge) two of which were re-reads a Foxed Quarterly (winter 2016) and on Audible I listened to Meet the Austins a middle grade novel by Madeleine L'Engle that I had never read before. That's ten books. . By language nine were in English and one in French. By format eight were hard copies one…

Another day another #bookstack. #theardentbiblioreads today is reading in living room and well this is my living room even though I didn't get the tripod out like I'd hoped to. We're snowed in and I'm actually not spending the day reading have been planning and prepping for our trip to Florida instead! Pretty great way to spend a snowstorm tbh. This is what I'd be reading if I were spending the day reading though. A few repeat titles here from the last pile and a couple new ones. The new…

For if Jack Buggit could escape from the pickle jar if a bird with a broken neck could fly away what else might be possible? Water may be older than light diamonds crack in hot goat's blood mountaintops give off cold fire forests appear in mid-ocean it may happen that a crab is caught with the shadow of a hand on its back and that the wind be imprisoned in a bit of knotted string. And it may be that love sometimes occurs without pain or misery. . Catching up after yesterday. I was so…

Imagine a morning in late November. A coming of winter morning more than twenty years ago. . Capote's A Christmas Memory is my favorite Christmas story bar none. I had it on cassette as a child and listened every Christmas over and over. It is the sort of story that haunts you. I did not remember its name or who had written it and while I thought of it every Christmas (and at many times in between it really is that kind of story) I couldn't track it down. Then a few years ago I decided out…

My cold was better but now it is back and I was just settling in for a good sulky read with coffee in my chair. I looked over at my pile of books and was struck by how unintentionally beautiful it was. (From bottom to top we have the current #slightlyfoxed my #persephonebooks day planner Virginia Woolf's The Voyage Out The Givenness of Things by Marilynne Robinson my kindle in its case It's Hard To Be Hip Over Thirty by Judith Viorst and finally Le tour du monde en 80 jours by Jules Verne.)…

#januarywrapup time! The tl;dr version is that my favorite book of the month was probably Marie Howe's What the Living Do and I will make a separate post on her later because somehow I overlooked it? Whoops. . I never like the way my wrap up photos turn out. I just can't find a good way to take pictures of a whole stack of books and my kindle at once I need strategy. Advice? . Anyway I read 10 books in January. Four were fantasy novels (Veronica Roth's new Carve the Mark and then the Grisha…

I took this picture a while ago to save for a rainy uninspired day. Everyone knows Dorothy Sayers for her Lord Peter Wimsey murder mysteries and indeed that is how I came to know and love her. But she also wrote plays; translated poetry from Old French and Italian; and most especially wrote some truly remarkable essays about faith feminism and creativity. This is my Dorothy Sayers non-fiction collection. . I have read her entire "Divine Comedy" translation which she considered her finest…
