Comic and cartoon mascots and other symbolic emblems were everywhere. The examples below are among the those that were sanctioned, worn in addition to the more traditional division badges and patches. These come from a 1943 Army Officers Manual
TheBERRY: A boy went to war in 1914 and left his bike chained to a tree. He never came home and the family left the bike there as a memorial to the fallen soldier. Vashon Island, in Puget Sound, Washington State.
