The image of George Sleigh, 63 years old, covered in soot and ash moving away from the World Trade Center went around the world in the days after September 11, 2001 'The man with the bag', he was called. He worked on the 91st floor of the North Tower when a plane hijacked by terrorists brutally driven into the tower a few floors above him. None of the floors of his survived. He was among the very last to come out alive. (9-11-2012)

After shepherding 156 of his AON employees to safety from the 101st floor of the South Tower on September 11, 2001, James P. Berger (C '1978) lost his own life on that tragic day. The hearts of many people around the world were touched as they heard the story of Jim's selfless and courageous actions. He took away from his time at Villanova a passion for leadership, service, and a desire to put others first.
