A big draw of this area is the parrot lick and we all wanted to see the parrots there. Unfortunately, just before we arrived there had been a landslide at the lick and the parrots were thus wary of settling on it again. We spent some time waiting, hoping that they would land again, but though they gathered on these branches overhanging the lick, they just would no actually settle back on the ground. A Pandemonium of Parrots by Timothy Devane: 3 species of Macaws (Blue/Yellow, Scarlet and Red/Green) on Sejali Clay Lick ~ Mishagua River, Peru. Macaws congregate to ingest clay rich in minerals and possibly to neutralize toxins of fruits and seeds they eat.
