Pebbles in tafoni, Pebble Beach, San Mateo County, California Photo taken during ideal lighing conditions--scattered high clouds. Tafoni results from cavernous weathering, most common along coasts where salts aid in etching holes in rock. Here, at Pebble Beach, where the beach is composed of granules and pebbles instead of sand-sized grains, waves have splashed granules/pebbles into the tafoni.
Deer on Inlet Beach, FL Panhandle. This photo, taken by Craig Carper, was posted on Facebook via a Panama City, FL news station. Inlet Beach is between Destin and Panama City Beach. We've got deer all over the place around here but I never considered that they probably also visit the beach. Cool!
