FRIDA Khalo, 7/6/07 – 7/13/54, a Mexican painter, best known for her self-portraits. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits. She insisted, "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality." She had a tumultuous marriage to painter Diego Rivera. They were both outspoken politically. She died soon after turning 47. A few days before her death she wrote in her diary: "I hope the exit is joyful, and I hope never to return, Frida.
