This is a piece created by a 6 year old boy. While the focal point of the art is a ship I thought it was interesting how the water the boat floats in was addressed by this artist. The depth in the water is literal rather than a subtle change to the color. The brush strokes are separate and the boat floats on top of the water. Everything is individually placed in the order they are perceived as important although the flag in in the lower righthand corner to show that it is closer.

After living in Florida, I decided to look at the different ways that children create images of water. Is it from their experience or pictures? What aspects do they find interesting as water takes up 75% of the earth. The artist that created this image used rich colors to depict friends and family playing in the ocean. I found this interesting as the artist is a female from the mid-west painting a picture of the ocean which is not something you would not experience living in Missouri.

This picture was created by a 9 year old boy. I think including a friend in the picture and using several colors to address the different depths of the water. I noticed that boys about this age deal with depth in a different way then girls about 9-10. Changes in color create depth in their artwork rather than attempts to draw depth. I enjoyed the title of this picture "At our lake". Tying their artwork into their personal experience creates deeper meaning for me as the viewer.

Boy artist from Taiwan. His perspective is of the fish and fishing vessels that crowd the water. Where many of the children in the states depict water as recreational it is interesting that many children in other areas of the world view water in the context of industry. He use colors to depict the fish & boats. Unlike other artists his water and sky are not separated. Everything in the picture floats in a sea of space. The only items creating a sense of depth are the two fishing vessels.
