The Aeneid Virgil translated by Robert Fitzgerald. Written around 25 BC, this is the epic tale of the founding of the Roman empire. In beautifully descriptive language, Virgil tells the story of Aeneas, a refugee from the fall of Troy, who famously follows his fate ordained by the gods.
Librarian Liz is reading IN THE SHADOW OF THE BANYAN by Vaddey Ratner. Based on the life of the author, this novel follows the story of seven year old Raami, the daughter of royalty in Cambodia. When the radical communist group Khmer Rouge takes over, Raami is separated from all she loves. This novel of the Cambodian genocide is incredibly sad and at times very difficult to read, but she feels that it is ultimately worth it.
