JULY 1968 – Lady Diana Spencer was born in 1961 to in Norfolk, England, to John Spencer, Viscount Althorp, and Frances Spencer. This photograph of her in a nautical ensemble was taken on her seventh birthday in Cadogan Place Gardens.
The Princess of Wales was at Milan’s gothic cathedral on 22 July 1997 for the memorial service of her friend Gianni Versace, who once called her “The Mother Teresa and Cindy Crawford of our time”. She wears his black shift-dress and leather Kelly bag with Medusa heads, re-named “the Diana bag”. Diana comforted Elton John during the service. By a tragic twist of fate, he was to sing at her funeral service just a few weeks later.
